Bitter Expo
Bitter Expo is an ongoing musical artproject founded by Tys de Hoog and jazz drummer Tom van Weelden. Starting off as an experimental initiative in 2022, we have done three shows together with noise artist Thom Floris before venturing into more personal territory, exploring more intimate sonic and emotional landscapes for our most recent release, Restvorm.
Restvorm
The more sculptural aspect of this work takes center stage, allowing it to express its most tender moments through rigorous sound design, combining various eras of pop music recording techniques.
In pursuit of a perfect marriage between the digital and the analog, deliberate contrasts between lo-fi and hi-fi elements emerge through sampling, digital stretching, field recordings, and sculptural ambient tracks that are re-recorded in real time during live events, transforming them into domestic field recordings.
At its core, this is the sound of self-cannibalization. An attempt to recycle, distort, or saturate the record’s soul.
Featured on the right is the uncut tapedeck version of our release. The official release can be found on spotify.
